Finance Manager (maternity cover)
re:arc institute is a new non-profit philanthropic association based in Copenhagen, Denmark and working at the intersection of climate action and architecture philanthropy.
Our mission is to resource women, youth, and historically marginalised communities who are reframing how we relate to the planet and moving us beyond the limitations of extractive paradigms. re:arc institute’s grantmaking program funds community-led work that addresses the root causes and consequences of climate breakdown. Through the Practice Lab and Public Discourse programs we also provide funding to commissioned projects, people, and practices experimenting with a variety of creative initiatives around ‘architectures of planetary well-being’—a framework which acknowledges the critical interdependence of our social and ecological systems.
The Finance Manager will handle the managerial financial tasks of our rearc institute. The Finance Manager will work closely with the Operations, Finance & Legal Director with all financial aspects of the organisation; The Finance Director will make sure you are self-governed for her maternity. This will primarily include update and control of our financial tools, update and controlling of budgets, foreign payments and money laundering compliance as well as financial reporting. We work under Danish law and accounting standards, but our main activities are global.
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
Bookkeeping together with our external partners - this is primarily handled through a compliant software solution that uses machine learning to have the most efficient workflow and minimise errors.
Controlling
Software optimization & compliance with our activities (we use PLEO, Corpay, e-conomics and Google Sheets (for budgets))
Maintain the full overview of the financial situation
Financial reporting towards our donor
Payments and bank maintenance
Annual accounting together with external auditors
Cashflow overview and invoicing
Salary (we use Zenegy)
Tax compliance together with external partners
Please Note: The above job description contains the main responsibilities and duties to be executed by the Finance Manager. However, in an ever-evolving organisation such as rearc institute, staff members are expected to be flexible in their approach to work and willing to undertake other tasks that are reasonably allocated to them but which are not part of their regular job descriptions.
Minimum 5 years experience within operational finance
Appropriate education within Danish accounting standards
Proficiency in, or willing to learn, Google Workspace, PLEO, Corpay, e-conomics and Slack;
Professional fluency in written and spoken Danish & English
Strongly preferred, but not mandatory:
Spanish as a third language
Experience working within philanthropy / donations
Clarity working around issues of power, privilege, class, and wealth;
A part-time contract (app. 20-30 hours a week depending on the right candidate). We support flexible work hours and remote working policies. re:arc institute’s standard working hours are Monday to Thursday, 9 am to 5 pm (Central European Time), but we are committed to tailoring working arrangements that suit the needs of our team.

Salary will be dependent on experience, and in accordance with market levels in Denmark, where we legally and financially operate.
